Short hair is more popular than ever, says Jamie Mazzei, owner of nuBest Salon and Spa in Manhasset, NY. Stars like Emma Watson, Ginnifer Goodwin, Cate Blanchett and Vanessa Hudgens are all fans of the look-and more and more “real” women are beginning to fall for the style.
That’s because according to Mazzei, cropped cuts are almost universally flattering, no matter your age, hair color or face shape. In fact, the only thing you need to consider is your hair texture. “If you have really thick, coarse hair, cutting it short might make it look too bulky or heavy.”
Here are a few tips to personalize the cut so it works best for you:
Ultra-short styles are most compatible with oval face shapes.
If you have a heart-shaped face, avoid too much volume at the crown. If you have a round face, the opposite applies–crown volume will add height and make your face appear narrower.
If you have a square face, a slight, wispy bang and light layers are your best bet.
If you have any other concerns, discuss them with your stylist, who has the expertise to help you achieve your best look.
